Chair(s)
  • Advocate for SPEC within the larger CIMVHR network.
  • Participate in regular communication with CIMVHR staff regarding SPEC activities. Be the main point of contact between CIMVHR and SPEC.
  • Oversee regular operations (e.g., chair meetings, draft agendas, meeting minutes etc.).
  • Support activities related to other SPEC leads.
  • Take minutes at SPEC meetings and ensure all action items are recorded and completed by the specified deadlines.
Event Leads
(2 positions available)
  • Work in collaboration with committee and CIMVHR to identify various workshops/seminars/lunch networking events and incorporate suggestions/feedback provided by participants of other SPEC/CIMVHR events.
  • Lead the creation of an annual engagement and events plan that is incorporated into the CIMVHR events calendar and engagement plan.
  • Organize a student/post-doc led event that coincides with Forum themes (e.g., social and professional/academic development events) in collaboration with the remainder of SPEC and the CIMVHR Forum Planning Committee
  • Assist CIMVHR with welcoming student/post-doc volunteers at Forum and provide support for orienting the student/post doc volunteers with their volunteer assignments at Forum.
  • Facilitate networking and engagement between trainees as well as seasoned researchers interested in engaging with students and postdoctoral fellows. This could include hosting spaces at the venue (e.g., a room dedicated students at the venue), making students visible at Forum (e.g., providing students and postdocs with special lanyard attachments that identify them as trainees – if they wish to be identified) and other means of highlighting student presence and work.
  • Assist with the activities and have a speaking role at the Forum SPEC Networking Event.
  • Work with members of SPEC to create workshops/seminars/lunch and learns with special guest speakers either from CIMVHR leadership, Fellows or stakeholders.
  • Use the feedback from participants of SPEC and CIMVHR events to create professional development opportunities.
Networking Lead
  • Identify universities where student and post-doctoral research is being conducted in the areas of military, Veteran, PSP, and family research.
  • Engage in outreach with students, postdoctoral fellows, and seasoned researchers to increase the visibility of SPEC with students and postdoctoral research fellows.
  • In collaboration with the comms lead and CIMVHR communications, the creation of a marketing and recruitment plan on an annual basis to set measurable goals and recruitment targets, as well as strategies to implement in order to achieve these goals.
Communications Lead
  • In collaboration with SPEC Executive execute yearly communication and strategic plans for the SPEC.
  • Build a strong social media presence using CIMVHR platforms (through the CIMVHR Communications Coordinator) to advertise events offered through SPEC.
  • Develop suggested social content for CIMVHR Communications Coordinator to post.
  • Draft email announcements for CIMVHR to send out to their email list and add to their social media platforms, while keeping the two-week translation time in mind for all public communications.
  • Work with CIMVHR to ensure all communication fits within the communications calendar and CIMVHR standards (e.g., translation, development of a SPEC logo, etc).
Western Canada Representative
  • Attend all SPEC meetings.
  • Raise issues/challenges/concerns/opportunities related to students, postdoctoral fellows or trainees in their geographical area.
  • Assist with SPEC duties and activities as required.
Central Canada Representative
  • Attend all SPEC Meetings.
  • Raise issues/challenges/concerns/opportunities related to students, postdoctoral fellows or trainees in their geographical area.
  • Assist with SPEC duties and activities as required.
Quebec Representative
  • Attend all SPEC meetings.
  • Raise issues/challenges/concerns/opportunities related to students, postdoctoral fellows or trainees in their geographical area.
  • Support the inclusion of Francophone students, postdoctoral fellows, and trainees.
  • Assist with SPEC duties and activities as required.
Atlantic Canada Representative
  • Attend all SPEC meetings.
  • Raise issues/challenges/concerns/opportunities related students, postdoctoral fellows or trainees in their geographical area.
  • Assist with SPEC duties and activities as required.
International Representative
  • Attend all SPEC meetings.
  • Raise issues/challenges/concerns/opportunities related to students, postdoctoral fellows or trainees in their geographical area and beyond.
  • Assist with SPEC duties and activities as required.
SPEC Support Members
