Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research
Dr. Birtwhistle is the medical consultant of the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research, a unique consortium of 42 Canadian universities dedicated to researching the health needs of military personnel, Veterans and their families. He is a family physician and clinical epidemiologist. He is a professor of family medicine and public health sciences and is director of the Centre for Studies in Primary Care in the Department of Family Medicine at Queen’s University. He also served as the associate dean for undergraduate medical education in the School of Medicine at Queen’s from 1996-2004. His primary research interests include use of electronic medical records for research, chronic disease management, and the evaluation of primary care models. He has been leading a CIMVHR funded project to study the health of military families using primary care EMR data.
